Before You Upload That PDF to iLovePDF: A Sensitivity Checklist
iLovePDF is a well-built tool with genuine strengths in Office conversion and cloud workflows. But not every document should leave your device. Here's a practical decision framework based on document type.
When someone says "just use iLovePDF", they're often right. It's a mature, genuinely capable platform. The merger tool works cleanly. The batch rotate function is fast. And if you need to turn a scanned PDF into an editable Word document, iLovePDF's server-side OCR is one of the better free options available.
The question is what's inside the PDF.
iLovePDF's terms state that uploaded files are encrypted in transit and deleted from their servers within 2 hours. That policy is reasonable for non-sensitive content. But "deleted within 2 hours" still means the file traversed public internet infrastructure, touched a third-party server in Barcelona, and sat in cloud storage for up to 120 minutes. For a tax return or an NDA, many users and organizations consider that unacceptable — not because iLovePDF is untrustworthy, but because the architectural model requires transmission.
The alternative is a tool where the question "was my file uploaded?" has a technical answer of "no, it never left the browser tab."
