iLoveIMG vs. Browser-Native: The Upload Tax You Pay Every Time
iLoveIMG is a capable cloud image suite—but every task begins with a full upload to their servers. At 18 MB per DSLR photo, that upload overhead is real. We measured it.
Cloud image tools have a structural cost that never shows up in their feature lists: the time your files spend in transit. On a 50 Mbps upload connection—roughly the average household broadband upstream—uploading 10 photos averaging 15 MB each takes about 24 seconds before processing even begins. That's before the server queue, before the compression run, and before the download.
iLoveIMG processes images on their cloud servers, which are deleted within roughly 2 hours. The compression quality is good. The Drive/Dropbox integration is genuinely useful for teams already in those ecosystems. But you always pay the upload tax—and on slow connections or large batches, it compounds fast.

Where iLoveIMG is genuinely stronger
Google Drive and Dropbox integration is iLoveIMG's biggest real advantage. If your photos live in Drive—as they do for many Google Workspace teams—the ability to open, compress, and save directly back to Drive without a local download step is a meaningful time saver. Shrinkify requires a local file picker; it doesn't connect to cloud storage.
The batch watermarking tool (Premium, ~$4/mo annual) is a real feature with position control, opacity, and logo upload. Shrinkify doesn't do watermarking.
Desktop applications are available for Windows and macOS on the Premium plan. If you need system-level integration (drag-and-drop from Finder, background processing), the desktop app is useful. Shrinkify is browser-only.
