In PDFs exported from Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, or commercial RIP software with transparency flattening enabled, large photos are often split into consecutive horizontal strips or mosaic tiles to optimize memory. If an image was sliced during the PDF creation process, our extractor retrieves every individual strip at 100% native quality. Yes. When a physical document is scanned to PDF, scanner software embeds each page as a high-resolution raster image (often 300 or 600 DPI) inside the PDF wrapper. Extracting images from a scanned PDF retrieves that raw scanner image directly at full hardware resolution without re-compressing it or adding digital margins.
In modern PDFs, vector icons, mathematical charts, and typography are stored as geometric vector path operators (moveto, curveto, fill) rather than pixel bitmap streams. Because they are code rather than raster photos, an image extractor only finds bitmap XObjects. To capture vector charts or diagrams as high-resolution images, use the 'Convert Pages to Images' tab above and select 300 DPI for razor-sharp rasterization.
